Box Office Report: new releases going fair but ‘Band Baaja Baaraat’ good: There were altogether four releases last Friday: 332 Mumbai To India, Kaalo, Mirch and Payback, and all the movies failed to lure the audiences to cinema halls.
The movies opened to almost vacant houses with 0-5% occupancy and are likely to go without being noticed at the box office. However, Band Baaja Baaraat continues its winning streak in its second week.
Band Baaja Baaraat is steady even after its first week and that comes as a pleasant surprise. It started on a dull note, but as the rave reviews poured in, the collection of the film got better. The film managed to collect approx Rs 5.25 crore approx from its first weekend and the collections were nearly Rs 4.25 crore approx over the weekdays, making the film’s first week collection to near about Rs 9.50 crore. As the second week ticked in on Friday, the movie, instead of going down, performed better in some circuits.
Now, the ten-day total business of Band Baaja Baaraat is nearly Rs 13.50 crore approx and after two weeks the film is expected to do Rs 16.50 crore plus business. However, it will see a drop with the release of Tees Maar Khan this week.
No Problem which released alongside Band Baaja Baaraat, collected Rs 22.50 crore approx from its first week but the collection dropped from Monday. The film reportedly is having a good second week run on single screens due to lack of competition, but then too the movie will be considered a flop, given the high budget on which it is made.
Now all hopes are pinned on Tees Maar Khan which is releasing on 24th December. The year 2010 was not good for Bollywood in terms of business; let’s see what magic TMK weaves at the box office.
